The Perini Navi Story
The Perini Navi shipyard was founded in 1983 when Italian paper manufacturer and inventor Fabio Perini, unable to find a large sailing yacht that he could operate single-handedly, decided to design and build one himself. Originally a studio that provided design and engineering for large luxury sailing yachts, Perini Navi began to construct its own designs by 1988.
The Perini Navi Story
The design goal for Perini Navi was to create large yachts that could be handled by a small crew, and the luxury yacht builder helped to develop a computerised sail-handling system that would enable sails to be furled and unfurled with the push of a button, with captive winches located under deck that eliminated flailing sheets and cut down the number of crew required to handle the sizeable sail areas.
The Perini Navi Story
After many years leading in the international sailing yacht industry, shipyard Perini Navi entered the luxury motor yacht sector in 2007 with the launch of the Vitruvius motor yacht series by Picchiotti, another brand within the Perini Navi Group. In 2021 Perini Navi was declared bankrupt by a judge for the local government authority who rejected their majority shareholder’s €100 million restructuring plan. By declaring itself bankrupt and appointing a receiver yacht building company, Perini Navi created opportunity for possible acquisition of the assets by other parties.
